Bioesthetic Dentistry View Photos

Bioesthetic Dentistry is a relatively new concept in the field of Dental Medicine. Few Dentists or Specialists choose to pursue this form of treatment due to the time commitment - both in the training and in the treating of patients. However, Dr. Ang is convinced that unless a Doctor seeks out the origin of a health problem, true healing cannot take place. This is why he has committed himself to learning how to help his patients, and why he committed four years to learning at the institute of Bioesthetic Dentistry.

Since the late 1970s, the founder of Bioesthetic Dentistry (OBI) - Dr.Robert L.Lee - discovered, after exhaustive studies of the dentition in the elderly, that the main factor for those who still possessed their original healthy functioning teeth was due to the fact that their jaw joint (TMJ) was in proper alignment, thereby maintaining stability and minimizing wear and tear on the teeth. This was a "break through" in how the Dental world thought about proper tooth alignment - instead of being merely an esthetic issue, it was realized that it was a critical element in oral health! Dr. Lee then began to pursue the problem of how a Dental professional might accurately pinpoint the patient's current jaw joint position, and then formulate a consistent and accurate treatment plan to rehabilitate the bite in order to attain proper jaw joint (TMJ) alignment.

Put simply, our brain is programmed to ensure that all of our teeth have even and equal pressure on contact. When teeth are not in their proper form and position, the brain compensates by moving the position of the jaw. Through repeated compensation the jaw muscles "bulk up" in some areas, and weaken in others - the result is a skeletal and muscular imbalance that has far reaching implications that can involve one or many of the following symptoms:

  • Headache pain (It is estimated that 85% of all headaches are bite related)
  • Grinding or clenching teeth
    • This can be exacerbated by taking anti-depressants, or in menstruating women (due to hormone fluctuations)
  • Broken, worn, chipped or cracked teeth
  • Jaw Clicking, popping, grating, or jaw joint tenderness
  • Lock Jaw
  • Neck Pain
  • Sore/tender jaw muscles
  • Difficulty Chewing
  • Sore, sensitive teeth
  • Airway issues

Because Bioesthetic Dentistry addresses the root cause of these problems, by providing a stable jaw joint position, we are then able to treat the teeth to create a smile that is not only beautiful but lasting. Correct tooth form leads to correct function of the entire chewing system, and the natural outcome is pain-free, beautiful smile!
